Our Aim
Our goal is simple. We strive to create elegant, customized, and optimized sites that work for our clients and their ambitions.
The rest of this page details the style in which we go about doing this–a style we think sets us apart from a lot of other web design companies, in particular the large communication firms that churn out impersonal, business-card-like sites that have dominated the online presence of small businesses for years.
At K&J we offer an alternative with a focus on lasting-impression design and personability. Here’s how we do it:
Design
There’s a certain feeling that you get when you find yourself on a site that is functionally elegant and intuitive. It makes you happier to look around and see what else the site has to offer just by nature of the design elements not getting in your way.

Your Story
Every company has a story to tell. But unfortunately these stories often get left behind in favor of unmemorable, business-card-like sites that dominate the online presence of small businesses.
We believe that personability is the key to standing out on the Internet. Sharing your organization’s unique story allows your visitor to feel like they know you or your brand, and by nature be that much more interested in doing business with you. Our services seek to empower you to provide that personability on your website by emphasizing your company’s uniqueness.
Naturally, you know your company’s uniqueness much better than we do, and this is where teamwork comes in strong. We love to organize and stylize your writing, making it look beautiful on the web, but we think the bulk of your site’s actual writing should come from the experts in the field, AKA you!
At the start, this means receiving an initial document from you via email containing what you would like to communicate to your visitors. We can use this to set up our prototype design, and from there any additional writing you want to include is a snap. But more on this in the Independence section below.
Optimization
Keyword research, like what you see hear, will give your website an edge by targeting search engine results pages that you can rank highly on.
If you want to find anything online nowadays, where do you go? In all likelihood you go straight to Google, or another search engine.
Any given day, chances are there are a good number of web surfers turning to the search engines to look for services related to your business. The one thing separating you from them? Landing high on their search results page with your website.
How you land high on their search results page involves, among other things, allowing the search engines to know what the pages on your site are about, which in turn involves communicating them effectively in “search engine language” (or meta information, as it’s less colloquially known). We take care of these nuanced details, so your site stands its best chance of reaching new visitors via search engines.
Besides meta information, another cornerstone to taking advantage of search engine traffic in our eyes is keyword research. Essentially, we carefully research words and phrases relevant to your site to ascertain which are being searched the most (high demand). We then look into the competition for ranking high with those keywords (the supply) to see which will drive the most traffic to your site. In a nutshell, low supply relative to demand puts you in the best position, so those are the type of keywords we hunt for.
In addition to keyword research, the process of link building is also important for your site to be ranked higher in the search engines’ eyes. In a nutshell, if another website links to your website, it’s like getting a nod of approval from that website’s owner. Search engines interpret that link to mean that another human found your site useful, telling it that other searchers may find you useful too, thus boosting your ranking within the search engine. Link building can happen somewhat naturally as people start to come across your site, jump-starting it with some good quality links can be a huge plus to getting a young site started.

Independence
Your site comes fully equipped with its own admin area, so you can update your content freely, on your own schedule.
Too often we hear tales of frustration where a business pays a communications company a monthly fee to maintain their website, but has no direct control over it themselves. When they need to make a simple change (e.g. their prices change), they have to go through the company and wait for them to deal with it, sometimes weeks later, sometimes only through persistence.
At K&J we understand that this makes horrible business sense. You should be able to update your site with efficiency whenever you please. After all, it is your site.
Price change? No problem. It's simple to update your website in its admin area. No HTML required, just type away like you would on a word processor.
We set you up with a beautifully intuitive website, and then we hand the reins over to you via your own admin area of the site. You can create as many users with their own passwords as you want, and each of these users can log in to the site to update content when it needs to be updated, on your own schedule.
And it’s actually very easy to do so. Inside your site’s admin area you’ll find word processor-like editing screens for each of your site’s pages (see image at right). No HTML knowledge needed. Just a click here and a click there and you’re updated.
Besides the much-deserved freedom this affords you, it also means you can say goodbye to wasteful monthly maintenance fees and hello to much more reasonable pricing. Ahh, that sounds nice doesn’t it?
