It’s not uncommon for businesses to outsource their website work to a large communications company and end up with a draining monthly payment and a site that isn’t profitable. Enniss Inc., for example, was footing a $1400 per month bill from a large communications company for a small static website that looked like it was stuck in 1996. To add to the injury, they had little control over making updates to the site, leading to headaches and delays every time a price needed to be changed. You can read about their story and how we helped them eliminate those recurring costs here, including before and after photos of their site.
At K&J Productions we believe in simplicity. And that goes for your price too.
Our alternative to the expensive design firms offers you an elegant, personalized, and optimized website for a one-time flat fee according to the time it takes to realize your vision for it.
Flat Rate: $60 /hour
So a flat rate is nice, but how much is that going to add up to? The answer of course depends on the scope and scale of your project, but here are some ballpark estimates based on how long it took to make a few of the sites from our portfolio:
EleanorsArt.com Approx. 10 hours |
EnnissInc.com Approx. 20 hours |
GeoCurrents.info Approx. 30 hour |

What happens after you hire us to create your website? First, we have a conversation about what you’re envisioning for your site. We’ll get on the same page from the start so that every ounce of effort from that point forward is moving in the direction of your goals.(Don’t have much of a vision from the outset? No problem. Feel free to let us share our opinion with you about what we think will make your future site great, and once you have some visuals to work from, you can provide feedback from there.)
From there, we’ll collect photos and writing from you that you’d like to include and turn it into a prototype design. We’ll send you screen shots of these designs and you can confirm or tweak the direction we’re going in before we go live. |
Then, if you don’t already have a previous website or domain, we’ll decide on a domain name with you (e.g. www.YourCompany.com). Registering your domain name will cost around $8.99 per year for .com’s, a nominal price that goes to the domain registrar that everyone has to pay to own and renew domains on the Internet. You’ll own the domain of course, but we’ll handle the technical stuff for you, and can even set it up so your domain is renewed automatically for you each year.

Admin Area: Your website will have its own admin area, where you and others in your organization can log in and update your content as life moves.
By handling the technical stuff, we also mean setting up your domain on our web server. The server is what stores all the information that makes your site functional and deliverable to a browser (things like databases and such), and examples of web servers, FYI, include Bluehost and HostGator. We provide a server for your domain at no additional cost.

Keyword Research: We'll analyze your company from a keyword standpoint to see where your website may be able to fall on new eyes, and make sure your website is optimized to reach them.
In most cases, we next install a content management system (CMS, for short) on your domain, which will give you an easy-to-use way to log in to your domain (see image at right) in the future to make any updates you might need to make on a timely basis. WordPress is our favorite CMS, and we use it for the majority of our clients.
Everything from there is a whirlwind of activity, from Photoshopping your images to fit seamlessly into our design, to continuing to work with you in developing content, to optimizing that content for being found on the search engines through keyword research and attention to detail.
The end result? A beautifully elegant website that conveys the heart and soul of your business, with all the nuanced pieces in place to be found organically by potentially new customers.
